Association for International Cancer Research

Association of International Cancer Research

Cancer recognises no boundaries, geographical, political or racial. AICR in turn recognises no boundaries in the fight against cancer. We accept applications for funding from scientists in any country, in any area of cancer. All we ask is that the research is of the highest scientific quality, is relevant to cancer, and does not duplicate work done elsewhere. AICR is currently funding over 200 research projects in 20 countries.

Bowel & Cancer Research

B&CR is a unique organisation with three principle aims. The first is to improve survival rates for bowel cancer sufferers through research into the complex way that cancer behaves in individual patients. The second is to investigate the causes, effects and treatment of bowel disorders other than cancer which are currently poorly understood. The third is, through pioneering innovations in surgery, to improve the quality of life of patients suffering a range of bowel disorders who may otherwise need to rely upon a stoma(bag).

Breakthrough Breast Cancer

Breakthrough Breast Cancer is the leading charity committed to fighting breast cancer through research and education and has established the UK's first dedicated breast cancer research centre, in partnership with The Institute of Cancer Research. Breakthrough's scientific work ultimately aims to eradicate breast cancer by discovering the causes of the disease, finding methods of prevention and developing new treatments, with results being translated as rapidly as possible into practical help for patients.

Elimination of Leukaemia Fund

Leukaemia and other blood cancers are very serious illnesses. Since 1977 the Elimination of Leukaemia Fund (ELF) has been making a significant contribution to the treatment and cure of blood cancers. ELF supports research into blood cancers; provides treatment and support facilities for blood cancers sufferers; and provides fellowships for nurses, doctors and researchers involved in leukaemia. Everyman

Testicular cancer is the most common cancer in men aged 15-45 and prostate cancer, which affects over 30,000 men a year, currently kills one man an hour in the UK. The Everyman Campaign, run by The Institute of Cancer Research, is dedicated to raising money for research into testicular and prostate cancer at The Everyman Centre – Europe’s first and only centre dedicated to research into male cancers. Everyman must raise at least £1.5 million each year to support the vital research into male cancers conducted at the centre. Everyman scientists have made many significant breakthroughs in understanding and treating male cancer, however much more needs to be discovered in order to save lives. Your donation will help support our scientists as they search for new ways to improve the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of male cancers.

Laura Crane Trust

Cancer in 15-25 year-olds is less common than in other age groups, but when it does strike, it often comes in dangerous and complicated forms. The Laura Crane Trust is the only UK charity funding research specifically into cancers affecting this age group. It also supports measures to improve the quality of life for teenage cancer patients during their frequent and debilitating stays in hospital. At a time when life should be offering all that it does for most of us; facing death is the cruellest of ideas.

Macmillan Cancer Support is a national charity dedicated to working towards the day when everyone will have equal and ready access to the best information, treatment and care for cancer. They fund Macmillan nurses, Macmillan doctors, building of cancer cares units, and provide grants for people with cancer in financial need.

Saint Francis Hospice

Saint Francis Hospice offers specialist care and support, free of charge, to people who have cancer, motor neurone disease or some other life-limiting illness. We offer our services in the inpatient unit, the day hospice, or at home, whichever is most appropriate and our patients come from Barking & Dagenham, Havering, Redbridge and Brentwood. Every year we need to raise two thirds of our £3.8 million running costs from the community.

St Raphael's Hospice

St Raphael's Hospice offers the best of palliative care to terminally ill patients living in Wimbledon, Merton, Sutton and Cheam. The Hospice is completely free of charge to its patients, regardless of the extent of services they receive and patients of all faith or none are welcome at St Raphael's. Our services include Home Care, a Day Care centre and an In-patient centre. The cost of providing our Hospice service has now reached over £50,000 each week, and we depend on the generosity of our supporters to enable that care to continue.

Tenovus aims to deliver the best treatment and support for cancer patients and their families in their local communities, across Wales through our mobile cancer support unit and local support centres. Tenovus also has a rich history in cancer research having developed Tamoxifen used by Breast Cancer Pateitns worldwide.
