For over 66 years, ABF The Soldiers' Charity has been supporting members of the Army community by offering a helping hand to relieve need and distress among past and present soldiers and their families.

We provide assistance to the homeless, the unemployed, the physically disabled, the mentally ill, the elderly, families and children and anyone from the "Army Family" in genuine need.

Coaching for Hope

"To use football to empower youth, women and disabled people in developing countries"

Coaching for Hope trains local coaches across Africa in football coaching skills and HIV education as well as other life skills. These coaches are then developed so that they can in turn coach more people. Each coach is working with groups of vulnerable young people in orphanages, schools and community associations.

Our curriculum uses football related games to communicate health education messages and covers sexual health and substance abuse as well as wider life skills. We are now developing a new curriculum to ensure that local coaches are encouraged to include disabled children who are so often excluded from sports and play.

We harness the power of football to unlock potential and engage communities in vital awareness raising activities and partner with a number of Football League clubs as well as the FA, PFA, adidas and other sponsors.

Costa Foundation

The Costa Foundation was set up in 2006 to give something back to coffee growing communities by providing children with access to education.

Costa recognises that coffee farmers are an integral part of the brands success and the Foundation’s focus on education is in direct response to requests from coffee growing communities. The work of the Foundation is funded through direct annual donation from Costa, match-funding by the Whitbread Charitable Trust, store fundraising activities and individual team member fundraising. Every penny donated to the Costa Foundation is spent directly on school building projects as all running costs for the Foundation are funded by Costa.

This “Golden Pound” mechanic ensures that Costa is able to maximise funds to the benefit of coffee growing communities. As a result, in addition to the seven new schools already built in Colombia, Ethiopia, Guatemala and Uganda, a further four projects are currently nearing completion in Colombia, Ethiopia, Guatemala and Costa Rica and will all be completed during 2009.

This means that by 2010 the Costa Foundation will have:

• Built 11 new schools with a total of 55 fully furnished classrooms

• Provided jobs for 120 teachers

And most importantly …..

• Given access to education to more than 4,500 children a year

Crimestoppers

It surprises some people to learn that there is a charity associated with Crimestoppers. Many think that it is just a part of the police or simply a TV programme.

In fact, Crimestoppers Trust was established in 1988 and is the only crime-solving charity.

The Trusts role is to co-ordinate the community side of the partnership with the police. Calls made to Crimestoppers are received by police officers trained in Crimestoppers procedures.

The Trusts job is to make sure that the phone keeps ringing, by promoting and explaining the scheme to the public at large. It operates through a number of voluntary regional boards around the country.

Missing People

Missing People is the UK's only charity that works with young runaways, missing and unidentified people, their families and others who care for them. As well as actively searching for missing people and supporting those who are trying to find them, the charity offers three other services; Runaway Helpline (for young runaways), Message Home (for missing adults) and Identification (helping to resolve cases of unidentified people).

MSSC

The MSSC is the UK’s largest maritime charity, offering educational opportunities and financial assistance to professional seafarers, and supporting young people as Sea Cadets through adventure training with a naval theme.

Rowland Hill Fund

The Rowland Hill Fund is an independent charity supporting Royal Mail Group colleagues, pensioners and their dependants in times of need.  The Fund helps with budgeting, respite breaks, home modifications, mobility vehicles, or when an unexpected crisis occurs. Royal British Legion

The Royal British Legion is a UK charity that provides financial, social and emotional support to millions who have served and are currently serving in the Armed Forces, and their dependants. The Legion was founded in 1921 as a voice for the ex-Service community and over 380,000 members continue to ensure that this voice does not go unheard. Although the needs of ex-Service people have changed over the years, we are still there to safeguard their welfare, interests and memory. We are probably best-known for our role as the nation's custodian of Remembrance and for the Poppy Appeal which we organise annually.
