Aberlour

Aberlour is the largest, purely Scottish, children’s charity. Every year we help over 6,000 children, young people and their families to cope with major obstacles such as disability, exclusion, parental drug and alcohol dependency and family breakdown. We provide the only refuge for young runaways in Scotland. Shockingly 9000 young people run away from home every year, many from abuse and neglect, and we are able to offer advice and a safe place to stay. Please help us to achieve our vision for a Scotland where children are kept safe, fulfil their potential and enjoy the benefits of a stable family life.

After Adoption is an adoption support agency that works with anyone affected by adoption: adopted children and their families, adopted adults, and birth relatives who have lost children to adoption. Bliss

Bliss is the UK charity that cares for premature and sick babies. We are dedicated to ensuring that babies survive and go on to have the best possible quality of life. We provide practical and emotional support for families during an extremely difficult time, so they can give the best care to their babies. Our specialist study days and training supports doctors and nurses to develop their skills. We fund research to improve the care of all sick and premature babies. We raise awareness of the issues affecting special care babies and fight for essential change within government and the NHS.

ChildHope

ChildHope is a small UK registered charity working around the world with children who are in some of the most difficult and dangerous circumstances.

These include children who are: 

*             Living or working on the streets or in slums

*             In prison or in contact with the law

*             Exposed to abuse at home or in schools

*             Orphaned or alone

*             At risk of HIV or denied treatment for AIDS

*             Engaged in the worst forms of child labour or sexual exploitation.

We support projects in ten countries in Africa, Asia and South America that challenge the many forms of violence suffered by children and young people.

Since 1989 ChildHope has provided support to hundreds of thousands of vulnerable children, their families and communities around the world.  The projects we currently support give priority to prevention, finding long lasting solutions and tackling the underlying causes of poverty and violence.

Childlife

Throughout the UK, thousands of children and young people are facing challenges in their lives as a result of illness, disability or social circumstances. Childlife helps to improve the lives of children and young people by raising funds for the work of its four member charities.

Our partner charities supporting children are Ataxia UK, Acorns Children’s Hospice, National Deaf Children’s Society and the National Children’s Bureau. Together they reach many thousands of children and young people every year, providing a range of direct services, information and advice to promote the interests and well being of all children and young people. In their different ways, the four charities are all providing support and information to improve the lives of children and young people every day.

Children in Crisis

Children in Crisis exists to improve the lives of children around the world affected by conflict, deprivation, poverty or other hidden crises by working with local communities to provide education, healthcare and protection.

We currently support programmes in Afghanistan, China, East Timor, Ecuador, Kenya, Russia, Sierra Leone, Ukraine, Tanzania, and the UK. We work with Partner Organisations, supporting their activities through regular contact visits, allowing us to be cost effective whilst developing the skills of local people and generating local employment. This also allows our Partners to continue their programmes as we invest in new initiatives.

Children of the Andes

Children of the Andes is a UK registered charity dedicated to supporting Colombia 's most vulnerable children. By working in partnership with local NGOs we aim to improve the lives of children who have struggled in the face of the long-standing armed conflict, poverty, disability, displacement and neglect.

As well as offering immediate relief to these children, we also focus on promoting longer-term, sustainable development through a range of education, healthcare, protection and peace-building initiatives. All of our projects encourage the active participation of children in building a better future for themselves, their community and the next generation. We believe that this type of grass-roots level investment is an important step towards a more peaceful Colombia .

EveryChild

EveryChild is an international development charity working to stop children growing up vulnerable and alone.

More than 24 million children grow up without parental care, their survival often threatened by greater risk of malnutrition, violence and exploitation; their future lost by missing out on school, and their childhood. Working with local partners we keep children safe when they are alone and at risk. We protect children in danger of ending up on their own by keeping families together. Great Ormond Street Hospital

We need to raise £50 million every year to help rebuild and refurbish Great Ormond Street Hospital, buy vital equipment and fund pioneering research. With your help we provide world class care to our very ill children and their families.

These developments include contributing to the rebuilding and refurbishment of two thirds of the hospital and the Institute of Child Health. Funding the most up-to-date equipment and supporting the research into and development of new and better treatments and providing accommodation and other support services for families and staff.

Jeans for Genes

Jeans for Genes raises funds for research into serious genetic disorders affecting thousands of children, as well as valuable support services and advice for families.

In the UK, one baby in every 33 is born with a genetic disorder or birth defect - that's one born every 30 minutes whose life could be affected. In 2006, Jeans for Genes will be benefiting 10 national charities, including Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity, SPARKS and WellChild.

Little Havens Children’s Hospice

Little Havens Children’s Hospice is based in Thundersley near Southend but cares for life-limited children and their families from all over Essex, including parts of Kent and London. It provides respite and end-of-life care for youngsters who are not expected to reach adulthood. Little Havens costs £1.6 million every year to keep open with just two percent coming from statutory funding. All of the care and support given to children, siblings and families is free of charge.

Make-A-Wish Foundation UK

Make-A-Wish Foundation® UK has a very simple objective – to grant magical wishes to children and young people fighting life-threatening illnesses. The charity was founded in the UK in 1986 and since then has granted over 5,700 wishes.

With over 20,000 children in the UK living with life-threatening conditions at any one time, our work is never ending.  Our aim is to ensure that every one of these children is able to experience the magic and joy of a Make-A-Wish wish.

We receive no government funding or lottery grants, relying on the generous donations of the public and that’s why, for our charity, every donation really counts.

National Blind Children's Society

Blind children can get left behind when their friends go to discos. They can't play ball games or experiment with make-up. In the classroom they struggle to keep up, especially now that more go to mainstream schools. The National Blind Children's Society is here to make sure they don't get left behind. They give them the education equipment they desperately need, such as talking computers. They pay for a wide range of recreational activities so they get the most out of life.

National Deaf Children's Society

The National Deaf Children's Society is the only UK charity solely dedicated to supporting all deaf children, deaf young people, their families, carers and professionals working on their behalf in education, health and social services. Every day an average of two babies are born with a significant permanent hearing loss. Hundreds of thousands more will experience mild or moderate deafness or lose their hearing as a result of childhood illness or accident. In addition, 1 million youngsters under 8 years old will suffer temporary hearing loss caused by Glue Ear. Happily for all these children and their families the NDCS has existed for more than half a century, as a source of sympathetic, expert advice, information and advocacy support on every aspect of their deaf child's development from diagnosis to career choices.

NSPCC

The NSPCC is the UK’s leading charity specialising in child protection and the prevention of cruelty to children. We have been directly involved in protecting children and campaigning on their behalf since 1884. Our work includes 180 services throughout the UK. We also run 2 free helplines: our 24-hour child protection helpline that provides information, advice and counselling to anyone concerned about a child’s safety and ChildLine, the UK's confidential 24-hour helpline for children and young people.

Railway Children

The Railway Children's vision is to offer an alternative route for vulnerable children away from the streets, into a life that offers safety and opportunity, helping to secure the future for them and their communities.

We work for the runaway and abandoned children who live in or around the world's railway stations. Working in the UK, India, Bangladesh, Mexico, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Russia and Siberia we provide:

• A point of contact for children just coming onto the streets.
• Shelter, healthcare, education, training, protection and, above all, friendship.

Teens and toddlers

An innovative approach: at risk teenagers mentoring vulnerable small children with the consequence of a renewed sense of hope, love and self respect! Children Our Ultimate Investment UK provides practical, hands on response to tackle the issues that put teenagers on the path of social exclusion and pregnancy and builds their self esteem and aspirations for the future.

Teens and Toddlers enables disadvantaged teenagers, both boys and girls, to mentor vulnerable small children in a safe nursery environment, giving them a new and positive experience of themselves, that they can make a difference and can be a worthwhile part of their community. Endorsed by the DCSF, the DoH and the PM Strategy Unit, the results of this well evaluated, evidence based intervention are substantial.

UNICEF, the United Nations Children's Fund, is dedicated to improving the lives of children.

We work with local communities and governments in more than 160 countries to help every child reach their full potential through long term and emergency work on healthcare, education and protection for children at risk. UNICEF receives no statutory United Nations funding and thus relies entirely upon voluntary contributions to carry out its work.

The Variety Club Children's Charity was founded in 1949 and aims to help sick, disabled and disadvantaged children throughout the U.K. Whether the charity is raising money to build a paediatric unit, donating a Sunshine Coach to a special school or taking a group of children on a fun packed "Variety at Work" day out, it aims to make a real difference, hopefully putting smiles on faces along the way.

WellChild’s Vision is for every child to have the best possible health. With more sick children in the UK than ever before, life-changing care, support and research has never been more desperately needed. WellChild is the only charity caring for the individual needs of every child, whatever their sickness.

We provide a unique package of services to support children and their families, including funding research at hospitals across the UK; providing nurses to care for sick children in their own homes; a Helpline (0845 122 8636) giving confidential advice and information to children and their families; a corporate volunteering programme and an interactive website.
